An open source hardware project, originally created by Jesse Stark.
I created Little Garden Stand as a #CaronaCation project. I took one week off of work and instead of going someplace, I wanted to launch something that was nothing more then positive. My inspiration was the Little Free Library.
My wife and I have quite a few vegetable gardens in our backyard. We end up planting so much that we have lots of extras to share. Earlier this summer, we put out some rhubarb in the morning and it was gone by mid-afternoon. I don’t know what I expected, but we live on a cul-de-sac, so foot traffic is pretty limited. This inspired me to want to design a way for me to put out anything we have extra so our neighbors can share in our bountiful harvests without us pressuring them into taking out tomatoes!
I’m releasing this project as an Open Source Hardware project. It will be able to be built with basic supplies bought at any lumber yard (aka Home Depot and Lowes) with minimal tools. I will be using power tools, but the intention would be that a basic hand saw and an electric drill (could be substituted with hammer and nails) should be enough to get you up and running. I will post all source files to GitHub and hope to see people release their own versions of the Little Garden Stand.
I started this project on August 10th, 2020 and expect to have created and launched the following in a single week:
- Launch LittleGardenStand.com so I can document the process and provide updates using the Blog.
- Design and build my first prototype garden stand.
- Convert the design into a 3D model and provide instructions on building your own.
I’m excited to share this project with the world. I know I will learn a lot along the way and get to show off some of my talents along the way that some people may not have known about me.
Happy Gardening and Making!
